The Land Rover owners Club Johannesburg visited Eastern Cape in September 2024 where they spend a couple of days at the farm at 3 Sisters. During their visit they asked Patrick Stricker to show them the biggest commonage in South Africa which is right where we live in Bathurst.

On Tuesday morning they met up at the Pig & Whistle Hotel and enjoyed our very best coffee at That Coffee Place. Thereafter they followed Patrick’s lead and toured our famous commonage, enjoyed the views, the Lushington river valley and the various challenges that our roads in the commonage provide. These challenges made the time spent in the commonage longer than anticipated, but nonetheless fun was had by all.

From Penny’s Hoek they then proceeded to the poor man’s game viewing drive through Sibuya Game reserve to Kenton, where they had a very late lunch at the Pizzarella.

Clearly they enjoyed their stay in Bathurst, as they came back on Wednesday for the famous Steak-night  at the Pig & Whistle, which is famous for being the oldest pub in South Africa, having been going since the 1820 Settlers arrived in Port Alfred.

But that was not enough, because they returned again to our not so little village on Friday to visit the Bathurst Agricultural Museum, which is now also housing all the exhibits from the recently closed down Museum of Port Alfred.

We are now convinced and proud of the fact that Bathurst has a lot to offer to visitors from near and far. Check out our events calendar on our website Bathurst Gems bathurstgems.yey.co.za.
